Romans 12

Living Sacrifices

1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of worship.

2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will. 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4 Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. 9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

13 Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.

16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited. 17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”says the Lord.

20 On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; ; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. ; In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

On saturday I took my youth group to a local karate dojo that I rented out. I had met with the instructor there prior and put together a bunch of games. 55 to be exact. We met at 2 and ended at 5 and played around 12 or so games.

IT WAS AWESOME. we had team challenges, strength challenges and full on combat. Let me tell you this was such a cool time and the kids loved every minute of it. Because we didn’t get to even half of the games we are going to be doing it again in a few months.

I knew it would be cool, but I didn’t think that cool. I love pugel stick fighting.

The CEC for Life 2008 contest is now officially underway!
This year’s contest purpose is aimed to tap into the creativity of youth today to release the gifts of the Holy Spirit each one is given through their ideas.
We are asking that each participant submit an original idea to protest abortion and draw others into a pro-life worldview. You may express your ideas through a DVD/movie presentation, Website, etc. You must also include how you would draw others to participate in your idea and promote it (i.e. How would you promote your website, What ways of communication would you use?).
You must also include who your audience will be for your idea. (i.e. Is your idea intended only for youth, or for the young at heart as well?).

Here are some ideas that have ignited passion in the heart of the pro-life movement especially through youth.

4. Crosses matched to number of abortions
5. Stand True Ministries

We are asking you to present an original idea that would be helpful to ignite another passionate drive in the hearts and minds of youth today.
We will select three winners who will receive their airfare and hotel expenses (w/roommate) paid for to attend the International Convocation, July 30- Aug. 1, 2008. For international entries we will provide a $550 scholarship towards your trip.
All entries must be submitted by April 15th and winners will be announced April 18th 2008.

We just ended the 30 hour famine at our church. It was a great event for an awesome cause. I was a little disappointed with the turnout, but the kids who came really did great. Sometimes it is hard at an event like this to really understand what people go through who can’t afford what we usually take for granted.

I think overall the event was a great success and we raised over $1000, which is awesome.

I would like for the crew that are in GSRI sr high group to post their opinions on the event.

Give me some real honest comments…

I have been hinting for a little while about something big I am doing with my youth group. Announcing The Ninja Warrior Most Extreme Youth Event. So your thinking “What the Heck is that!”. Well on march 29th, for 3 hours, our youth groups. Grounded and Settled (sr high) and Spark! (jr high) are meeting at a local karate dojo that we rented. The event is inspired by American Gladiators and Ninja Warrior. It is a full scale competition. We will have pugel stick matches…those are the giant Q-tips. We will be doing obstacle courses, bo staff fighting, king of the mountain style matches, board breaking, Knife fighting, grappling matches, sword fighting and a ton more. There are 30 games planned.

This will be the ultimate Youth event of all time. We are sure to have some casualties, but I think it will be worth it.

This week we talked about the next step in Chasing the Lion. Facing Your fears. It comes down to being offensive and not defensive. Being always in prayer so when our fears come at us we can chase them and not be chased.

It is one thing to act like a Christian, but even more difficult to react like a Christian. Our reactions should be in the way that God would have us. Reacting like a Christian is not being reactionary.

As the song above says. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. The more we are aware of God and what he has given us the more prepared we are to chase our fears.

Two weeks ago we talked about the importance of prayer. Is it to make a wish list for God? Is it to lay all of our crap on Him. It is actually both and more. Prayer is us communicating with our King and heavenly father. There are many times in life where opportunities come by and we can take advantage of them or not. Prayer helps us not only be in tune with what opportunities we need to jump on and what risks we need to take, but also helps us be more aware of what God has for us.
